What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a complete, evidence-based medical system that is roughly 4,000 years old. Whether you seek relief from chronic pain, stress, mental-emotional disorders, fertility challenges, tummy troubles, or other health concerns, acupuncture can help restore balance and vitality to your body and mind.
Acupuncture is arguably the most well-known practice among Chinese Medicine practitioners, involving the insertion of very thin, sterile needles at specific points on the body. Of the many regulatory effects acupuncture has on all systems of the body, this stimulation also helps shift the nervous system from a sympathetic state ("fight or flight" stress response) to a parasympathetic state ("rest and digest" natural state of being). This is the state in which the body is able to heal itself.
The practice of acupuncture is unique in that it does not treat "conditions and diseases", rather we look for patterns of disharmony in order to address the issue at the root cause rather than the branch (symptoms).

Many individuals experience profound relaxation during treatment, with benefits that last long after the session ends. These advantages include decreased inflammation, relief from pain, better sleep, cellular regeneration and detoxification, and improved digestion.

What to expect...
Chinese medicine looks at patterns of disharmony rather than focusing on symptoms and conventional diagnoses.
During your initial acupuncture session, you can look forward to a welcoming and informative experience. The session starts with a thorough intake process, during which your practitioner will inquire about your medical history, current health issues, and lifestyle. This information helps us tailor our approach to your specific needs. After the intake, we turn to traditional diagnostic methods where we look at the tongue and assess the qualities of the pulse for a deeper understanding of your unique condition. Finally, a pattern will be identified in order to provide the most effective treatment plan. Ultimately, the acupuncture treatment will begin, where your board-certified acupuncturist will insert tiny needles into specific points, focusing on restoring balance and promoting the innate healing mechanisms of the body. Many people find acupuncture to be an incredibly relaxing and nourishing experience.
The entire process can take up to 90 minutes (talk about thorough!), so please dress comfortably and make sure to have a nourishing meal before your first session.
